Review: Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Beautiful Creatures
by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Caster Chronicles #1
Published December 1st 2009 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

I started this book a week ago and I normally try to read a book per week, but this one was the big exception… Oh my good…  I couldn't finish it… Every time I read a page I felt It had been added 10 pages more…. I thought it was a never-ending-book…

If you ask me to describe "Beautiful Creatures" with only two words… I would tell you;  long and boring.

Why long? First. It has 563 pages. For me, it's ok. I mean, I like long books if they are interesting… books that keep you motivated to continue reading… (Example, Harry Potter) Hello? Harry Potter is really long… if you put together all the pages of all books… That is a LOT! And you know what? I loved those books… That story was awesome… breathtaking… This one, Beautiful Creatures was long and I don't know why! They could have perfectly written this book with only 300 pages instead of 563… and it would be perfectly… boring… but short…

Why boring? I mean, the idea was great. This is the first book, YA book I read that is told by the main male character… and this caught my attention immediately… I wanted to know how it was… Even though the beginning was too cliche… (A new girl stars at a school… and logically the main character, Ethan, likes her… and etc, etc,etc…-Twilight, but vice versa- ) But it was a great idea…  and the town… the idea that they live in a small town…. "with no surprises…" it was really good… and credible… the first pages I thought I would love this book… but I was wrong… I don't want to talk too much about the plot… but I tell you… the beginning, the first 100 pages was really good… and with a lot of mystery… but the rest of the book, the remaining 463 pages was all the time counting the time remaining for her birthday…  and if you read the book, you know what I'm talking about. For me, it was annoying and boring.

Everything was too predictable and I better don't talk about the characters. They were no big deal.

I have read a lot of good comments about this book, and it doesn't surprise me… even thought I'm rating it with only two stars, I recommend you to read it… maybe you will enjoy it more than I did… but if you like books like I do, with a really good story, nice characters, and not long, boring and tedious plot…. just skip this one.

Disappointed : (
